There is a Lincoln Group tradition where on a Sunday in December several walks meet at a common point on their routes . This is where everyone eats their packed lunches together and enjoy a glass of wine and a mince pie. It's usually 3 walks with different starting points and walk lengths which meet around mid day.
Stick Hancock and Pauline Yeardley started this tradition, now more than 20 years ago. In those days the mince pies and drinks were carried in varoius members rucksacks to the open air meeting point. Now we are more sophisticated and a village hall is usually hired and tables and chairs make the experience more comfortable, particularly when the weather is extra cold. It's also a good opportunity for members to meet up and exchange Christmas cards.
This year's walk on 12th Dec met up at Heighington Village Hall from which point Stick and Pauline led a short walk. Nev and Stella Green led an 8 mile walk from Washingborough, Five Mile Lane and Mary Glen led the 10 miler from Bracebridge Heath, Bloxholm Lane. There was a good turn-out in spite of the remains of the heavy snow of the week before.
The photos below show members on Mary Glen's walk. Photos by Jo Hempsall.
Jo says, 'The mince pies were lovely, and the mulled wine was enjoyed by many! '
